Threads and Needles

Few of you asked about the threads and needles I used for stitching my mini quilt in the previous post.

I use heavy weight cotton tatting thread for my long, running stitch in the quilts. Simply known as  DMC Perle cotton #8.

You can find them very easily at your local fabric store. Also, I found this site that carries tons of colors. I bought mine while I was in India but I do have some that I bought from local quilt shops and love using them over and over in my projects.

I also like using John James # 7 embroidery needles with these threads. They have long eye so they are easier to thread. They are quite sharp too.

Back to stitching! Hope you are having a good day.

  1. Yes, yes, yes! I also love pearl cotton. It is hard to go back to traditional quilting. The pearl cotton adds and extra design element and it goes so much faster!

  2. I have to have some luscious colours of perle cotton on hand and I love the way the stitches are laying on your piece. I'd love to do something like Kantha or Japanese Boro one of these days just because of the texture and pleasure of stitching with the thread.

  7. I love hearing what needles people use. I'm terrible, I have a jumble of needles in various pincushions and just use whichever I pick up and if it works okay then use it till I lose it. I did have some good crewel needles for my perle quilting but lost the packet and details. I'll be on the lookout for some of those John James needles.

  11. Hi, Sujata. Haven't been by for awhile, but then I see you must be busy as you haven't been blogging for awhile. Love the stitching on this quilt and the fact that your husband's shirt is in there. I've been playing with my husband's shirts, too. Hope to see you back soon.
