Out of Control

Do you think they are cute?

I am not so sure about that!

This guy right here has a grand idea for messing up my plans of Friday's  feature - Quilt on a Clothesline.

Yesterday while in my family room, I saw my clothesline flinging quite vigorously.  I looked outside rather curiously only to find this squirrel trying to chew it off. Needless to say I went running to grab my camera but by the time I got back, he had done his job!

Seriously? It was up for almost four months and as soon as I decided to make it into something fun he decided to chew it off?

I just stood there feeling frustrated.

Off he went.. as if his job was done! Some times I feel they can read my mind. By they I mean deer, squirrels, raccoons and bunnies. Whenever I sit outside and even dare to think that the certain plant is doing well this season, one of them is here that night or early morning to ruin it.. I am not kidding... this has happened so many times I am starting to believe it.

I have no intentions of backing out.

Here is the new Clothesline - taught and ready to go for Friday's post.

Meanwhile, I have been quilting away.

  Making progress.

  1. Yes I feel that way all the time. Like the deer eating my daylilies right before they are ready to bloom!

  2. So he's the HOA enforcer? Too funny. Around my house they usurp the feeders especially those that are "squirrel-proof."
The quilt looks lovely. Perle cotton quilting thread?

    1. haha.. May be they are the secret creatures for hire! Too funny!
We have squirrel baffler on the pole. That seems to keep them away from the feeders. I am using Perle cotton thread on this quilt. Going slower than I had expected.

  3. Oh, nuts! That little pest needs to find something else to floss his squirrel teeth with. At least your quilt wasn't on the clothes line yet. I'm looking forward to seeing the clothes line feature on Friday.

    1. Oh that would be a disaster! I don't leave my quilts out at all if I am not outside. I am so annoyed by them these days!

  4. I don't like squirrels we have a lot of them here too….
sorry about your clothesline glad your not about to let them ruin your new feature!
love the hand quilting as always….can you talk about in a post how you chose your colors for a solid quilt?
LOVE the colors in this quilt and how they all look together, I tried once to make a little quilt with solids and just was not happy with the color combo….I probably gave up too early.

  5. Those darn varmints! They are cute but so irritating. I gave up feeding the birds this year because they were such a problem.
Your quilting spot looks so pretty and comfortable. Your stitching is lovely as usual :)

  6. Looks like my place! Many a time, I have caught a furry friend doing a balancing act on my clothesline, but I have never seen a squirrel take one down. Maybe we've got a long winter ahead and he's making some preparations! Take care of those quilts! Pam

    1. I am going to have to replace this line with a metal one if they keep taking it down. No way I am giving up on my perfect spot to photograph quilts.

  7. Squirrels are alternately entertaining/charming and annoying/damaging - they chew their way into attics in our neighborhood routinely ... There was even an ad in a local paper showing a cute cuddly fellow asking if he "could stay with you" (with a coupon for varmint removal). Good luck ...

  8. As someone living in Australia, I think the squirrels look cute, but then they are not in my backyard :) we have similar problems with cockatoos (a large parrot) who can be quite as destructive to things like clotheslines. Loving your quilting on your latest quilt, it has a great textural look to it.

  9. this is funny! i can sympathize with you as I have a gruop of squirrels in my tiny backyard who are totally demolishing our apply tree! They climb it and knock down the apples and because they are numerous they knock down small branches and leaves while they are chasing each other thru the tree for territorial rights! I sometimes get upset but then I think how their habitat has been lost over the last few years in this area due to development of too many homes. I figure that someone is enjoying the apples even tho it is not me! I look forward to this new feature on Fridays! I aslo wanted to let you know thatI have pre-orderd your book on Amazon! I cannot wait to get it!!

  10. Love this post of the beginning of your quilting journey! I am mainly posting to tell you about my cure for sciatica. My daughter in law told me so I ordered two essential oils from a company called Young Living. They were "Pan Away" and "Valor" They were expensive BUT they are very good not like others. I drop three to four drops each in a little bowl with olive oil to mix and then rub at the BASE OF MY SPINE. In three days my sciatica was gone. When it returns (usually from standing on cement long hours, I just reapply before bed and it is gone with a few days. I have two other friends that done the same thing and their pain is gone as well. They are well worth what I paid and have lasted way over a year...I just haven't needed them as much...only three treatments and I honestly haven't had sciatica pain anymore now for months! I hope that helps....there are two sizes of the Essential Oil called PAN AWAY and the small one is plenty!

  11. What a pesky creature. I find cracked open nuts on my deck. My DH says they are just rats with bushy tails! Ha. Our weather has been perfect for outdoor quilting. You look like you are enjoying it.
