Understanding Freeform Blocks
“Join Sujata for a three-day deep dive into freeform blocks and improvisational quilting. Using intuition instead of rulers, you’ll explore space, value, and proportion to create a series of expressive quilt blocks — each one uniquely its own. This workshop invites you to let go of control, trust the creative process and rediscover the joy of making a quilt with joy of process taking the front seat.”
Participants will explore freehand cutting and curved piecing and explore six different freeform blocks to make an improv quilt uniquely personalized and reflective of individual style.
On days 4 and 5 we will create a Kawandi style quilt. African Diaspora of India create utilitarian quilts made with found and collected scraps. Document the memories and special events of life with stitches. From start to finish this is a complete hand stitching project. Focus of this workshop will be on being spontaneous while selecting scraps and learning to personalize simple patchwork by using colors and fabric of your life. Sujata will share how to find rhythm of your own between your mind and body and practice mindful stitching.
Registration is now open. Please reply by email stating you wish to attend the workshop. Once I have your email, I will send an invoice for the workshop cost and payment particulars. The class is limited to 20 quilters. Your payment guarantees your spot. You will receive a confirmation email with a supply list once payment is made. If you pay and need to cancel your spot contact me immediately. All but $25 will be refunded for cancellations before June 20, 2026. No refunds after June 20th unless I can fill the position from a wait list.
