The Goodwill Store
There is a special joy in making a quilt out of used cloths. I have always enjoyed the challenge of creating patterns out of solid cloth. I am inspired by the women of Gee's Bend and was fortunate enough to meet them. They are as beautiful, simple and strong as their quilts. This is my take on it.

FABULOUS!!!
ReplyDeleteReally, what an amazing job you have done... beautiful! (and I think possible inspired by my all time favorite Gees Bend quilt... the red and orange and denim one?)
And what an amazing experience it must have been to meet some of the woman in person! I have only seen the quilts in person, and that was like a religious experience.
Thanks, Victoria
ReplyDeleteYou are right, it was inspired by the quilt on the cover of the book. I love the simplicity and freedom these quilts have provided for my creativity.
The women are truly amazing. It was quite an experience to meet very down to earth and humble beings.
Something, I will remember for a very long time!
Thank you for visiting!

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI love your work (although it should be called play, don't you think?), and the connection to the Gee's Bend quilts. I witnessed the quilts in person, and it was stunning - both calming and exciting at the same time. Keep up the good work - love your blog! I hope to start blogging soon.
