Blogger Question

I am curious about replying to the comments on the blog.

I recently found out that in spite of replying to every single comment in the comment box, my readers may not have received those replies in their inbox. I am curious if there is anything in the setting that can be used to redirect the replies or is it something only a reader can choose by clicking on the 'notify me' option.

I will appreciate any answer you may have.

Rachael recently did not receive the reply I wrote to her in the comment box and now I am thinking none of you did! I am so sorry! I have always tried reply to the comments you all leave. For once I thought of trying something different, only to find out that it did not work. And it happened on one of my favorite posts!

I apologize for making you wonder about the comments you left. Thank you all for responding, placing the order on the book and for your words of encouragement.

Summer has arrived! I am enjoying working on sewing machine, hand stitching and photographing some old and new quilts.

  1. Somehow, I got the comments to go directly to my gmail account. That way I can reply to the commenter by email very easily. I think it's in the comments settings?

  2. I have noticed that not all of the comments on my blog each day come to my email and I'm a little upset about that. I don't have any idea about replies not getting there. I guess we wouldn't know unless the commenter let us know.

  3. Hi, I do the same as the commenter above. I have my email set to receive notifications whenever (rarely) someone comments on my blog. I do comment on blogs, but at times never go back to the same post to view additional comments--so if you responded to my comment, I might never read it, unless it was it was something that begged a response. I really enjoy your blog. In order to get email notifications, you'll have to go to Settings--and then Mobile & Email in the blogger dashboard, barring the commenter checking the Notify me box so they will be informed of further comments.

  4. Your replies used to go directly to my gmail account. They didn't this last time. I'll look into it at my end. Thanks.

    1. Ann,
You are a no-reply blogger. You may have to change your setting if you would prefer my replies in the mail. If you receive this anyway, please let me know. That means, no reply bloggers might be receiving my responses from here unless you checked the Notify me box.

  5. As far as I know your replies to a comment within a blogger post are never sent to the commenter. A commenter can tick the "Notify me" box on a post but then they receive every new comment/reply on that post as an email - not just a reply to their comment. Some other blogging platforms seem to allow you to reply to a comment and have it sent as an email.

I have comments on my blog set so each one arrives as an email in my inbox. This way I can send an individual email reply to any comment unless the blogger is a no-reply blogger (having no email address linked to their profile).

I'll be interested to see if others can shed more light on this.

  6. I do the same thing. I reply to commenters directly by emailing them. (When I comment on a blog, I don't check back on that blog for a response.)

  7. Thank you all for responding to this post as quickly as you did. I have comments being moderated and that means they all first come to my inbox and then get published. I guess blogger does not automatically send the replies to the readers from the comments box.
I should be content with responding to no-reply bloggers here and continue with the rest as I have been doing all along.
    I appreciate your input.

    1. Late here ... My understanding is that if you "reply as" your Google account and tick Notify me, then you will receive replies and maybe all comments but if, as I prefer to do you reply with other accounts such as Wordpress the Notify me option seems to disappear. This irritates me intensely and every year or so I research it but nothing seems to change. Google for some reason isn't coming to the party on this one. I am going to leave this comment with my Google Account.

    2. So, I received email notification of this one. Now I am going to reply with my Wordpress Account. Will it work?

I've changed my Reply As name and the Notify me checkbox has disappeared. It was there when I wrote the first para under my Google login. I find this totally infuriating.

  10. I blog through WordPress and have the same problem. What I do now is reply by email to every comment at moderation and then copy and paste any of my replies that are pertinent to everyone into the comments area. Imperfect and time consuming but reliable.

  11. It has to do with your settings as others have said. Have you fixed it? I have to go to blogger to check comments from people who don't have email settings.
I always wonder about comments at the sites, because I never go back to check for replies.
let me know if you need further help.

  12. Some blogger set their comment as noreply-comment. You can tell by looking at the address when you press a reply button. I think I have got your reply okay. BTW, I've pre-order your book with Amazon. Can't wait to get it - Hugs Nat

  13. Below the comment box is a little Notify me box. If the commenter checks that box, they will get the follow up. Otherwise, one would need to come back and read the replies in the comment section.

  15. I got your reply to my comment on your favorite post right away in my gmail!!

  16. I just want to tell you that the quilts are magnificent. They harmonize with the outdoors. I can't wait to see them in person.

  17. I do get your replys with no problems. I blog with Wordpress and I wish I could reply to comments and have them sent (easily!) to the commenter and to the blog. Apparently, that's too much to ask.

    1. In Wordpress they are if the commenter requests it on the comment page ... And my understanding is that ANY commenter with ANY sign on can ask to receive comments. But, if I change my Reply As here to my Wordpress Account I believe the Notify me checkbox will disappear. It pretty well always does for me on Blogger accounts. If there's a solution I'd love to know because naturally I want to reply with my Wordpress account.

  18. This is such a good question. I rarely respond to my comments because I wonder if people really go back to check on them. I know that I don't. But I do so appreciate all the comments that are left on my blog & often would like to engage in a conversation about a comment left. Just like I had wanted to tell you thank you for the last comment you left me. Your quilts are beautiful ....such pretty colors & very informative post. I have read every comment. Thanks

    1. Sally,
I often wonder about people who leave me comments. As a blogger I know that blogging is a time consuming process. As you said we appreciate our readers for their time and interest they take in reading what we have to share. My readers have given me so much encouragement throughout past four years..I am grateful. I am glad one you are one of them and hope you are reading this.

    2. I love the conversation part of blogging ... And always want t know if a blogger has responded to a comment I've made. Sometimes I respond again. But with Blogger blogs I have to remember to go back and check. Obviously I can't remember to do that! So here, I've made three comments I think and you have no idea what blog I write!!
